"Peter Emberlie," printed in The Sportsman, a Maine pubĀ­lication which died " many years ago." It was sent to the paper by a reader who wished "to perpetuate the songs sung among the lumbermen of Maine"
1      My name is Peter Emberlie
As you may understand, I was born in Prince Edward Island Down by the ocean strand.
2     In Eighteen Hundred and Eighty
When the flowers were in their bloom I left my native country My fortune to pursue.
3     I landed in New Brunswick
That lumbering counter-ee I hired to work in the lumber woods Which proved my destiny.
4     I hired to work in the lumber woods
To cut the spruce logs down. While loading two sleds from the yard I received my deathly wound.
5     There is danger on the dark blue sea
Where the waves roll mountain high; There is danger on the battlefield Where the angry bullets fly;
